The
Guests
A
young man and his wife were on a trip to visit his mother.
Usually they arrived in time for supper. They
had gotten a late start, and now it was getting dark. They decided to look
for a place to stay overnight and go on in the morning.
Just off the road, they saw a small house in the woods. "Maybe they
rent rooms", the wife said. So they stopped to ask. An elderly man
and woman came to the door. They didn't rent rooms, they said. But they
would be glad to have them stay overnight as their guests. They had plenty
of room, and they would enjoy the company. The old woman made coffee,
brought out some cake, and the four of them talked for awhile. Then the
young couple were taken to their room. They explained that they wanted to
pay for this, but the old man said he would not accept any money.
The young couple got up early the next morning before their hosts had
awakened. On a table near the front door, they left an envelope with some
money in it for the room. Then they went on to the next town. They stopped
at a restaurant and had breakfast. When they told the owner where they had
stayed, he was shocked. "That can't be", he said. "That
house burned to the ground ten years ago, the old man and woman who lived
there died in the fire."
The young couple could not believe it. So they went back to the house.
Only now there was no house. All they found was a burned-out shell. They
stood staring at the ruins trying to understand what had happened.
Then the woman started screaming! In the rubble was a badly burned table,
on the table was the envelope they had left there that morning!

Late
Night Ride
Jerry was
driving home late one night when he saw a young lady waiting
by a bus stop. He stopped his car and told her that he didn't think the
buses were running so late at night and offered her a ride. The fall night
air was getting chilly, so he took off his jacket and gave it to her.
Jerry found out that the girl's name was Mary and she was on her way home.
After an hours drive, they arrived at her home and he dropped her off by
the front door. Jerry said goodnight and went home himself.
The next day he remembered that Mary still had his jacket.
He drove to her house and knocked on the door, an old woman answered.
John told her about the ride he had given her daughter Mary, and had come
back to get the jacket he had lent her. The old woman looked very
confused.
John noticed a picture of Mary on the fireplace mantel. He pointed to it
and told the old woman that that was the girl he had given a ride to.
With her voice shaking, the old woman told Jerry that her daughter had
been dead for many years and was buried in a cemetery about an hours drive
away from there. Jerry ran to his car and drove to the cemetery....
He found his jacket, neatly folded on top of a grave...the name on the
gravestone was Mary.

Firefly's
Revenge
Angela Baker jumped
as she tried to catch the firefly, but it flew out of her reach. Angela
stamped her foot and cried " Darn it! That's the third one I've
missed in the last hour! I'll have to hurry if I want to get at least
thirty by bedtime." Angela sighed and glanced at her jar, already
full of fireflies. They buzzed softly and glowed brightly. Angela spotted
another firefly and jumped at it. She caught it gracefully and dumped it
in her jar. Angela was ten years old and was afraid of the dark. And she
always used a nightlight. Except in the summer. She caught fireflies and
they were her nightlight. " Angela! " her mother called
"Time for bed! " Angela turned and picked up the jar of
fireflies. She shook it gently and they buzzed a little louder. She stared
at the fireflies and gasped as she realized one was glaring right at her.
Angela looked around nervously and ran inside.
********** Later That Night **********
Angela woke up at 2:30 with a start to see the fireflies' lights had gone
out. She sat up and shook the jar to see if they were really dead. They
didn't move. Angela sighed, got up and went to the kitchen. She opened the
garbage can and unscrewed the lid on the jar. The fireflies suddenly
jumped up and flew out of the jar. They flew out of the jar and swarmed
around Angela's head. Angela shrieked and flapped her arms at the tiny
bugs. She pulled and yanked at her hair, trying to get the fireflies out.
Finally the bugs backed off and Angela collapsed on the ground in tears.
She looked up and saw the fireflies slowly flying towards her. Angela
backed up against the cabinet and trembled as she cried softly.
One firefly flew ahead and landed on the floor in front of Angela. It
walked slowly towards her and spoke! " Angela. We are tired of you
killing our family and friends. If you want to steal our light, then you
must suffer the consequences. " The tiny bug walked towards Angela
and walked right on her hand. Angela stared frozen in fright. She felt
something wet and gooey on her hand. The bug flew off her hand and flew
back to the other fireflies.
Angela watched in disgust as a huge, glowing lump formed on her hand. Then
it started growing rapidly and glowed brighter and then it stopped
growing. But the lump was as big as her fist by then. Angela looked around
frantically as the lump pulsated and glowed brighter on her hand. She
screamed and tried to get the lump off her hand. She rubbed it but that
made it pulsate even more.. She tried to pop it but that made it hurt,
worse than it did before. Angela shrieked helplessly and knew what she
must do to get the lump off her hand. She rushed to a drawer and pulled
out a big butcher knife. She laid her throbbing hand on the counter and
lifted the knife above the lump. She lowered the knife and it glowed even
brighter. Angela gulped and drove the knife into the lump. "
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! " Angela
screamed as the knife ripped open the lump. A million fireflies swarmed
out of the lump and flew all around the kitchen. A glowing, burning, gold
liquid poured out of the lump and splashed all over the kitchen floor. The
floor became gold and fireflies were everywhere. Angela screamed in agony
and collapsed on the floor. Finally, everything was black.
When Angela awoke she felt as light as a feather and when she tried to
stand up, she lifted off the floor! Angela looked around in horror. She
was in a glass jar alone! Angela looked at the glass and saw her
reflection, but she was a firefly! Angela looked around frantically and
saw she was indeed a firefly trapped in a glass jar. But the jar was in
her room! Angela saw her mother open the bedroom door and called to the
body under Angela's covers " Rise and shine! " Then she closed
the door and left. Angela watched in horror as the body under the covers
stirred and sat up.
Angela realized that the body was HER!!! The fake Angela got up and
strolled smugly to the glass jar and stared at the real Angela. "
Well, well Angela. Don't like being trapped in there do you? Well now you
know how we felt. And you're going to be in there for a very long time!
" "Angela" grinned and the real Angela knew that no one
could help her now.

Bloody
Mary
Urban Legend:
Chanting "Bloody Mary!" thirteen times in front of a
candlelit mirror in an otherwise dark room will summon her vengeful
spirit.
The Story:
Go into a room with a mirror and turn all the lights off. Bathrooms
seem to be perfect for this since they almost always have a mirror and are
usually dark at night with the lights off and the door closed. Light a
candle, look into the mirror, start chanting "Bloody Mary" . You
have to do this 13 times, of course. You should see Bloody Mary
behind your left shoulder after the thirteenth time.
Beware, she has been reported to
1.) Kill the person calling her, 2.) Scratch their eyes out, 3.) Drive the
person mad or 4.) pull the person into the mirror with her. This is an old
legend, it has been around for ages. A folklorist, Janet Langlois,
published an essay on the legend back in 1978. At that time, the legend
was wide spread across the USA and a popular slumber party ritual done by
girls as well as boys. No one knows the true origins of the Bloody
Mary tale, she's been known to be anything from a witch that was killed
for practicing witchcraft to a modern day woman killed in a car crash,
depending on what part of the country you live in. It was made popular
again in the film Urban Legends in 1999.

The
Long Distance Phone Call
Urban Legend:
An elderly woman, bed-ridden after her husbands death,
receives strange phone calls that turn out to be from the dead
husband.
The Story:
An elderly woman receives a phone call on a dark, stormy night. She hears
a moaning on the other end and a voice that sounds like her recently
diseased husband. The calls torment her all night. The next day, she asks
her driver to take her past the cemetery where her husband was laid to
rest. They discover that during the storm, a phone line had fallen down
...........and was laying on her dead husbands grave! Were the phone calls
she had received the night before made from beyond the grave by her dead
husband? Another variation of this has the woman dying from shock in her
bed after answering the phone call. Then, when she is being taken to the
cemetery it is discovered that the phone line is laying on her husbands
grave.
Origins:
This legend has been told as having happened in various parts of the
United States but no true origins can be found. A version of this legend
showed up as an episode of the Twilight Zone on February 7th,1964, called
"Night Call."

Ghostly
Train Track Kids
Urban Legend:
The protective ghosts of
little children killed at a railway crossing push stalled cars off the
tracks.
The Story:
This one is actually true. It's been talked about on many TV stations
including an Los Angeles, California station by "The Earth Man"
Garcia. It has to do with a school bus full of children that had stalled
on some train tracks in San Antonio, Texas. A train was coming and was
going too fast to stop in time to get the bus off the tracks. The bus was
hit and all of the children died. It was a great tragedy. The tracks
are located on a curve in the road but the tracks are on a small up-hill
grade to both sides.
If you stop your car just on the
tracks and put it in neutral, it will slowly start to roll over the little
hill and down the other side.
A local Los Angeles, California
station sent a crew there to check it out and it was done on tape, with a
San Antonio sheriff present. The back end of the car was cleaned off
of any finger prints before the test was done and afterwards it was
dusted for prints. Several small hand prints and finger prints showed up
on the bumper, showing that the small hands of the ghost children were
pushing the car to get it off the tracks.
There are also claims that this is
nothing more than a gravity anomaly allowing a non-moving vehicle to move
over a small up-grade. But no one can explain away the hand and finger
prints.

The
Lift Man
Herman was spending the night
with some friends who lived in the country. He went to bed late and did
not sleep well. Off in the distance he thought he heard the sound of a
horse drawn carriage. He got up, went to the window, and looked out.
There, in the full moon, he saw the carriage he had heard right outside of
the house. The carriage looked like it was carrying a coffin. The
driver of the carriage looked up at the window where Herman stood. The
driver's face was ghostly pale and very thin. "All aboard", the
driver said to Herman. Herman stepped back from the window and lay back
down on the bed. He eventually fell back into a fitful sleep.
The next morning, he told his friends about the carriage and driver and
they all decided that he just must have had a very bad dream. Later that
day, Herman went back home to his apartment in the city. Just as he
started to board the elevator, he looked at the elevator operator. He saw
the same pale, thin face that had belonged to the carriage driver.
The elevator operator looked at Herman and said "All aboard".
Herman stepped back from the elevator and stood as if in a trance until a
few moments later he was startled by a loud crash. The elevator cable had
broken and the elevator had plummeted down, killing everyone on board.
Later investigation discovered that the elevator operator had been a
temporary employee and hired only for that one day.
